Why a Community College Simulation Game?

Virtu@l CC aims at empowering a new generation of college leaders, by providing "computer-simulated hands-on practice" on College Leadership and Management. Virtu@l-CC pursues a gradual design and creation of tools for the development of high level skills that can be applied to Enrollment Management, Business Intelligence, Performance Monitoring, and Quality Management, under a learning-centered focus.

Student Development and Learning theories make up the framework that molds the games. Virtu@l-CC will enable players to simulate both Student Success and College Management via games that challenge players to navigate the complex synergy that emerges
among student outcomes, graduation patterns and Student Retention.

The success of the college depends largely on the success of its faculty, for whom pedagogical quality is a key factor. Virtu@l.CC will places great importance on faculty development as a critical success factor. However, future simulator's components will place special emphasis on new faculty success. As development tools, the game will feature strategies such as Quality Matters(c) which is used for the continuous quality improvement of the teaching and learning process.

Using as reference Virtual-U, Virtu@l CC will create simulation games as training and research tools to empower initiatives that target and foster the attainment of student goals, while pursuing excellence in the management of the college. Enablers of student success drive the main simulation engines. Parallelly, VCC simulates essential administrative processes, to facilitate training on key college management issues.

Unique features of the game will enable players to diagnose individual progress of simulated students via an "early warning system" that monitors and assesses student risk, based on predictors of student outcomes. These predictors continuously lead the agents into simulating student behavior. In this model, "Tracking Agents" assess students' outcomes in the background , '). In the future, other specialized agents will simulate college administration to support Business Intelligence processes, including Total Quality Management and Performance Management.

From a technology perspective, the games design will feature models that draw upon Game Theory, Fuzzy Logic and Management Science, or Operations Research to engineer robust agent-based simulations of the college as a unique human ecosystem.
